Carmen Velcic was born in Rijeka, August 1950 and graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka. Velcic has always been amazed by beauty, in all its forms and was continuously searching for the pastimes that allowed her to create art forms inspired by her fascination with beauty. Very often she made adornments for her and her friend’s homes, created dresses, painted on silk and cotton. Velcic delved into many artistic forms including greeting cards, flower arranging, decoupage and even interior design to satisfy her creative flair. Two years ago Velcic branched from her usual methods into a new creative outlet; she had found a way of expressing her imagination through digital photo manipulation. She embraced the many possibilities of new technologies and with the support of friends and family, grew the courage to carry on with this new passion in her life. Velcic thinks of art as something that enriches the soul and separates us from the routine of everyday life and applies this ethos throughout all of her pieces. The artwork she produces is usually printed on canvas, rice or parchment paper, depending on the image she has created. For this particular piece of art ‘Morning Flower’ Velcic uses these words to describe the meaning behind it:
“They were trying to call her ... They tried to pry her out of this world, but she did not listen. There she was safe, untouchable. She was not vulnerable. She was alone and safe.”
It is clear to see the strength and passion behind Velcic’s work through these words and apparent why she dreams of a future in which creating art is her sole career.
Art on Fashion® is honoured to be showcasing the works of Carmen Velcic.
