Garth was born in the Yorkshire town of Doncaster in 1981 and is currently based in Manchester. His art has taken the form of large scale installation, animation, sculpture, comics, painting, drawing and most recently pattern design. His work was recently worn by celebrities at the Golden Globe Awards 2015.
Although the output of his methods are diverse in their actualization Garth’s motivation for creating work is very consistent. Garth is renowned for creating works of immediacy and integrity. Garth’s work plays with opposites and often depicts voids spaces that express both everything and nothing. Through the use of re-collaging his work into new permutations Garth has been able to create a new form of expression in which the art develops itself organically outside of his conscious influence. His artwork has become an entity of its own and Garth is merely a conduit through which it is channeled.
Garth has only been producing pattern designs since early 2014. What Garth finds most interesting about the repeat pattern is that it is an expression of infinity that would be harder to achieve in a traditional gallery settings. So pattern design actual fulfils his artistic ambition in a way that working with galleries doesn’t.
Garth has a beautiful, if humble, home life living in a small flat in South Manchester with his cat Claude. He likes to spend long afternoons walking through the city and countryside and allowing himself to be completely consumed by the visual stimulus of his surroundings.
Art on Fashion® is honoured to be showcasing the works of Garth Simmons.
