Pamela Staker is a Chicago based abstract painter with a concentration in large-scale paintings, mixed media works on paper, and commissioned artworks. She also moonlights as a curator and art advisor, helping corporate clients and private individuals build meaningful collections. Her work/live space is in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood and she shares the studio with her German Shepherd Dog and 2 cats - all rescue animals. Staker received her BFA in painting from the University of Illinois at Urbana / Champaign and has received several grants and awards including an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship and a CAAP Individual Artist Grant from the City of Chicago, Department of Cultural Affairs. She was recently featured in a Chicago Tribune article from July 27, 2014 by Rick Kogan “Painting put artist’s life back on track” and in an artist interview with Saatchi Online. Pamela is represented by Moberg Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa and has works in numerous private and corporate collections.
Pamela explores abstraction, skirting the line between beauty and raw expression. Her painting is spontaneous and energetic – starting simply with colour and shape the work expands intuitively to include mixed media and collage. Using fragments of figure drawings, geometric shapes, saturated colours, and a full range of materials, the artist is forever interested in how the varying elements combine, compete, repel, and harmonize with each other. Pamela also draws inspiration from textile and design. Pulling from recognizable patterns, she repeats and breaks apart the rhythm while introducing abstract, gestural, and painterly elements. Her mixed media collages in particular are experimental studies using a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials such as duct tape, artist tape, acrylic, graphite, charcoal, screen print, and vinyl wall covering. Pamela builds layered and loose abstract structures while maintaining clear and colourful compositions.
Art on Fashion® is honoured to be showcasing the works of Pamela Staker.
